Our story

Rooted in the touji culture
of Kannawa Hot Springs

Kannawa Hot Springs, one of the Eight Springs of Beppu in Oita Prefecture.
This is a place where touji culture is ingrained from old times.
It is here where HAA was born.

Kannawa has a long history;
it is said that it was discovered in the Kamakura Period (1185-1333)
by the Buddhist priest Ippen, founder of the Ji sect,
and has been popular as a touji destination ever since.

In the Edo Period (1603-1867),
the “steam baths” of Kannawa became famous,
and many trekked there
to treat a variety of ailments,
with some travelers even using the steam from the hot springs
to prepare meals as they stayed for long periods.

Even now, “touji inns” remain in business,
providing lodgings for long periods
and making Kannawa the ideal place to rest body and soul.

Warming your body
by relaxing in the hot spring.
Having a cup of tea to decompress after bathing.

Dining on steamed dishes, gentle to the body.
Falling into a deep sleep at night.

This simple lifestyle called "touji"
is a health regimen that has existed in Japan since olden times.

Rooted in the touji culture of Kannawa Hot Springs.
HAA, through touji,
seeks to provide a lifestyle with room for deep breaths, like "haaaaah".
