3 relaxing cafes in Beppu recommended by Kanoko Ikeda, HAA representative

HAA代表・池田佳乃子がおすすめする、別府のくつろぎカフェ3選

In this issue, we will introduce a wonderful cafe in Beppu where you can relax and "ha~! Navigated by HAA representative Kanoko Ikeda. Ikeda, who lives in both Beppu and Tokyo, has selected three of her favorite cafes that she would like everyone to stop by. Please take a look at them as a reference for your trip to Beppu.

HOT SPRING BAR

The hotel GALLERIA MIDOBARU opened in December 2020, located about 15 minutes by car from Beppu Station. Within the hotel, which is based on the theme of hot springs x art x interaction, is the HOT SPRING BAR, a café that is open to non-guests. In the atmosphere of contemporary art, you can enjoy Oita's local beer, original cocktails, sweets, and non-alcoholic coffee and chai lattes.

Ikeda comments: This is a well-designed space designed by DABURA.m, which has won numerous architectural awards. The restaurant has a terrace with a great view and counter seats with a power supply, so you can easily linger over a long time. The space can be used even if you are not staying at the hotel, so please feel free to enjoy the art in the building.

Teabo Shinanoya

A five-minute walk from Beppu Station. At "Chabo Shinanoya," you can enjoy meals and coffee in a historic building more than 100 years old. Surrounded by antique furniture, the retro space is perfect for a relaxing time alone or with couples, friends, or spouses. The dango soup, a specialty of Beppu, is made with plenty of vegetables. There are also many Japanese sweets available, such as anmitsu (bean jam) and yaseuma, a local Oita confectionery.

Ikeda comments: I always order dango soup at Shinanoya when I want to eat vegetables today. The accompanying side dishes are all homemade and delicious, and above all, the friendly staff makes my heart happy. I also like the fact that when I order tea, it comes out in a nice tea cup.

Coffee Mumm

A five-minute walk from Beppu Station. The owner and her husband carefully polished the store, which had been in operation for more than 40 years, and opened it in 2016. The name "Mummu" comes from the three mountains of the Kujyu mountain range, where the master's parents live. Inside the store, which has a wonderful nostalgic atmosphere, you can enjoy not only the standard coffee shop menu, but also homemade sweets.

Ikeda comments: If you want to eat Neapolitan in Beppu, you may choose Cafe Mummu (served from 11:00 to 15:00). The old-fashioned Neapolitan served on a griddle with a plump fried egg is a perfect match. A melon soda to go with it is also recommended. A morning set meal, which is rare in Beppu, is also available.

Have a relaxing moment at a nice cafe in Beppu.

It's getting chilly and the season for longing for hot springs has arrived.
Beppu Onsen boasts the largest number of hot springs and the largest total volume of hot spring water in Japan, and the town is filled with white steam smoke rising from everywhere.

Beppu Onsen In addition to the hot springs, Beppu offers a wide variety of dining, art, and other pleasures. It will surely warm your heart and body.

Beppu is a city of hot springs.

The Journal will also provide information on the attractions of Beppu. Please take a look at it as a reference for your trip.
